Engineered Wear System
CIM’s CWI Wear Spool is a purpose-built wear management solution designed to control and reduce abrasion in critical high-wear zones. The system features a high-chrome white iron (CWI) inner liner, providing durable protection under severe slurry conditions. By localizing wear within a replaceable section, the solution protects surrounding equipment and simplifies maintenance planning.
TiC Reinforcement for Severe Applications
For extreme wear zones, a self-propagating TiC coating can be applied to the CWI liner, significantly increasing hardness and abrasion resistance. The TiC layer can be engineered up to 15 mm for the most demanding conditions, making it particularly
effective in oil sands operations with high solids loading and turbulent flow.
Proven Performance – Oil Sands Application
A TiC-reinforced CWI venturi wear spool was installed in a froth feed line within a leading oil sands operation, replacing an existing CCO-lined pipe.
The original CCO spool achieved a service life of approximately 2 years. In comparison, the CIM TiC-reinforced CWI spool has been in operation for 3 years to date, with a targeted service life of 5 years, representing a significant improvement in wear life.
For this project, CIM provided a fully integrated solution, including piping design, TiC- reinforced CWI spool fabrication, and comprehensive QA, ensuring performance reliability and controlled project execution.
